Pardia and Pro to merge on 1 January 2019

Today, 27 November 2018, the highest decision-making body of the Federation of Salaried Employees Pardia, the delegates’ meeting, decided on a merger with Trade Union Pro. The merger will take effect on 1 January 2019.

Since 2017, the parties have been engaged in negotiations on closer cooperation. Some 100 membership associations of Pardia have applied for and gained received membership of Pro, effective from 1 January 2019 onwards.

“It is delightful that the merger will take place. Our aim in the merger is to strengthen our bargaining power and social impact in both the public and private agreement sectors. Our opportunities for protecting our members’ interests have increased due to broader membership,” says Niko Simola, Chairman of Pardia.

According to Simola, in addition to improved protection of its members’ interests, the merger allows the Federation to provide more extensive training services and benefits and events for members.

“By increasing the size of our membership, we will also improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of our members’ services.”

After the merger, Pro will have a total of nearly 120,000 members employed in the public and private sectors.

The Federation of Salaried Employees Pardia has a total membership of 30,000, of whom the majority are employed by government agencies and institutions, and a significant number are employed by public utilities, companies, universities, and Kela. Pardia is a member of the Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK).
